Central Bohemia

The Central Bohemian Region – just right for the Big Screen

In the Central Bohemian Region you’ll find endless possibilities for photogenic and exceptional shots, and not only because of the historically prized monuments, but also several protected landscape areas, with breathtaking natural surroundings.

The greatest concentration of monuments is to be found in the city of Kutná Hora with its Cathedral of St Barbara, the Italian Court, the Hrádek silver mines, the Ossuary and Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin and of St John the Baptist in Sedlec, on the UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage list. The list also includes the Central Bohemian park of Průhonice, one of the largest parks in the Czech Republic and among the most visited tourist destinations near Prague.

Representing Central Bohemia on the Czech urban monument reservation list are not only Kutná Hora and the city of Kolín, but dozens of urban heritage zones and national cultural monuments. The most well-known castles are Karlštejn and Točník near Beroun, Křivoklát near Rakovník, Český Šternberk near Benešov and Kokořín near Mělník. The most riveting castle ruins are Žebrák near Beroun and Okoř in the Prague-west district. Among landmark châteaux are Konopiště near Benešov, Žleby and Kačina near Kutná Hora, Loučeň near Nymburk, Lány near Rakovník as well as Mělník château and Nelahozeves in the Mělník district. Holy Mount in the Příbram district is one of the prime places of pilgrimage in Bohemia.

Thanks to our unrivalled natural scenery, majestic castles and palaces, historical cities and technical monuments, many locations are simply the ultimate backdrop for films, international and local.
